Bartow, Fla.—The Florida Department of Health in Polk County (DOH-Polk) is informing residents of an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity in areas of Polk County. Several sentinel chickens have tested positive for West Nile virus. DOH-Polk and Polk County Mosquito Control are coordinating surveillance and prevention efforts by monitoring for cases and through aerial spraying.
DOH-Polk reminds the community to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes by taking these basic precautions.
