What Services Are Available?

The Polk County Health Department is strongly committed to safeguarding the quality of our drinking water. The Environmental Health Division provides the following programs and services to ensure drinking water in the county is free from disease producing germs and chemical pollutants.

Public Drinking Water Program

This program ensures compliance with the federal and state safe drinking water standards for public water systems. The Florida Department of Environmental Regulation has delegated the program responsibilities to the health department. Environmental Engineering staff review and permit water treatment plant and water main extensions, review construction applications and plans, inspect water systems, and monitor public drinking water systems’ compliance with bacterial and chemical contaminant standards.
